Membership Grades

No matter what stage you are at in your water sector career, we have a membership grade to suit. If you are unsure which membership grade is right for you, please have a read of our membership grades below to help you decide.

Student Membership £30 per annum

This membership grade is open to anyone with an interest in the UK water sector who is pursuing a relevant vocational or academic qualification.

To apply please complete the Online Application Form and upload evidence of your studies, outlining the course you are taking and how long this will last.

 

Associate Membership £100 per annum

This membership grade is open to anyone with an interest in the UK water sector.

To apply simply complete the Online Application Form.

 

Technician Membership £50 per annum

This membership grade is awarded to members who have attained or are pursuing Engineering, Environmental or Science Technician.

To apply, simply complete the Online Application Form and upload proof of your technician qualification or intent to pursue a technician qualification.

 

Corporate Membership £115 per annum

This membership grade is awarded on the basis of competence and commitment demonstrated through length of service in the UK water sector. There are no academic qualifications required.

A Corporate Member of the Institute of Water is a team player who is competent in their area of work, reliable, informed, motivated and committed to the water industry and its customers.  Applicants are expected to have acquired these attributes through a combination of knowledge and experience.

You are only eligible for this grade of membership if you have served in the water sector in any capacity for five years or more.

Successful applicants will be eligible to use the post nominals MIWater.

For existing Institute of Water members

If you are already a member of the Institute of Water and wish to upgrade to Corporate Member, we will only need you to send a copy of your CV and a completed and signed Corporate Referee Form. Please email these with your request to upgrade to info@instituteofwater.org.uk

If you are joining the Institute of Water

If you are not currently a member of the Institute of Water and want to join as a Corporate Member, we will need you to:

All Corporate Members are expected to be committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and must adhere to our Code of Conduct.

If you already hold Corporate or ‘Full’ Membership with another professional body then you may be exempt from this process. Please complete the Online Application Form and upload your proof of Corporate/Full Membership with another professional body.

 

Fellow Membership £130 per annum

This membership grade is awarded to members for dedicated service to the Institute or to prominent people in the water sector.

Successful applicants will be eligible to use the post nominals FIWater.

There are two routes to apply to become a Fellow of the Institute of Water:

  • Transfer (if you have been a Corporate Member for five years or more);
  • or Direct Entry

For existing Institute of Water members

If you have been a Corporate Member of the Institute of Water for five years or more and wish to upgrade to Fellow Member, please send the documentation outlined in section 3.1 of the guidance by email to info@instituteofwater.org.uk or by post to Institute of Water, 4 Carlton Court, Team Valley, Gateshead, NE11 0AZ.

If you are joining the Institute of Water

If you are not yet a member of the Institute of Water and would like to join as a Fellow Member, simply complete the Online Application Form and upload the requested documents outlined in the guidance.

All applications will be assessed by our Membership and Standards Committee which meets four times a year. Fellow Membership is also available through nomination by Area Committees or Board members.

 

Honorary Membership

This membership grade is reserved for members who have given exceptional service to the Institute of Water and/or the water sector. Honorary Membership is only available through nomination.

 

Retired Life Membership

This membership grade benefits from a one-off fee, which equals to 10 x the annual Retired Member rate, and payable on retirement. Once paid, there are no further annual membership renewals to make.

Company Affiliate

In addition to individual members, we welcome support from organisations working in and around the water sector. Being a Company Affiliate of the Institute of Water is a great way to raise your profile to our members and place yourself in front of many of the most influential people in the sector. Whilst Company Affiliate is not a membership grade, the benefits of being a Company Affiliate with the Institute of Water include:

  • Use of Institute of Water logo on your company’s website and stationery
  • Discounted rates and first option for exhibition stands at Institute of Water events
  • Discounted rates for advertising in our quarterly Magazine
  • Listed as a Company Affiliate with your logo on the Institute of Water website
  • A company profile/welcome in our quarterly Magazine
  • Discounted rates to advertise jobs on the Institute of Water website
  • Vinyl stickers for company vehicles to highlight your association with the Institute of Water

Please be aware that Company Affiliates will only be able to book their employees on to Institute of Water events at Non-Member rates. Member rates are reserved for individual members only.

We have three levels and prices for Company Affiliates which are determined by the number of employees within your company.

  • Small (1 to 50 employees ) £350
  • Medium (51 to 500) £500
  • Large ( 500+) £800
